Malawi Polytechnic second-year student, Tendai Masamba, is expected to join Malawi Under-21 National Netball Team squad in Botswana on Friday.
The shooter, who also plays for Alliance Capital Stars, did not travel with the rest of the team to Gaborone on Monday as she was writing examinations.
The Junior Queens’ assistant coach, Whyte Mulilima, confirmed that the player was left behind.
“She features in our game plans. We have picked players that will suit different formations and game plans. So, we need her in the squad,” he said.
Masamba said she was looking forward to joining the team in Botswana.
“I will finish my examinations on Thursday [today] and I will leave on Friday. It has always been my desire to represent the team,” said the Bachelor in Environmental Health student.
The Junior Queens begin their campaign with a tie against Lesotho on Sunday and date Swaziland on Monday, followed by Zimbabwe on July 27 and rivals, South Africa on July 28.
Malawi face stern tests against Uganda and Botswana on July 29 before winding up preliminary matches against neighbours, Zambia.
Malawi last participated in a World Youth Championship in 2009 in Cook Islands.
