Mafco FC striker, Richard Mbulu, has set himself a target of 20 goals by the end of the 2016 TNM Super League season.
Mbulu has scored nine goals in 13 games, the latest being in a 2-1 win over deposed leaders, Blue Eagles, in Dwangwa on Sunday. And he is not looking back.
“I am eyeing the Golden Boot Award. I will try to continue scoring so that I can achieve that goal. I do not want any player to surpass me,” Mbulu said.
The forward has made it three goals in two consecutive games having scored twice in a 5-0 win over Karonga United at Mzuzu Stadium last week.
The Salima soldiers are second on the table with 25 points from 13 games.
Overall, Mafco have won seven games, drawn four and lost twice and coach Thomas Maloya is happy with the progress.
On the list of scorers, Mbulu is followed by Kamuzu Barracks’ Manasseh Chiyesa with seven goals just like Be Forward Wanderers’ Peter Wadadwa.
Epac’s Anthony Banda, Moyale Barracks’ Khuda Muyaba and Chiukepo Msowoya for Nyasa Bullets have six goals each.
Msowoya and Innocent Bokosi from Red Lions were joint-top scorers with 16 goals last season. No striker has scored more than 18 league goals for over a decade.
