The Public Accounts Committee (Pac) of Parliament is meeting Auditor General (AG) Stephenson Kamphasa to get more details regarding what is commonly known as the K577 billion audit report which continues to court controversy both in Parliament and in the public domain.
According to a summary of the report which was presented to Members of Parliament (MPs) yesterday, the actual amount which has not been reconciled is K236 billion, and not the K577 billion which is regularly quoted as unaccounted for.
Pac Vice Chairperson, Kamlepo Kalua, confirmed in an interview yesterday that the committee is meeting the AG, but could not provide details of what the discussions will centre on.
“We met the Auditor General today [yesterday] and we will continue meeting him tomorrow [today]. We are discussing the report but I cannot provide the details until after 10 am tomorrow [today],” said Kalua.
However, sources privy to the meeting say, among others, Pac wants the AG to explain more on the files which were reportedly submitted to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for further investigations.
There were some clashes between the opposition and government sides of the House after an MP from the government side challenged the opposition not to say anything on the report which was then in their hands.
Meanwhile, government is expected to table the report in Parliament so that the MPs can discuss it.
