People’s Party suspends MP

by

Opposition People’s Party has suspended its Member of Parliament (MP) for Zomba Ntonya Constituency, Patrick Makina, for allegedly sidelining the party’s structures in the constituency since he was elected.

Confirming the development, PP Spokesperson, Ken Msonda, said the suspension is with immediate effect pending Makina’s appearance before the party’s disciplinary committee.

“He will be summoned for hearing soon. The party has taken this painful decision to save its image in Zomba Ntonya Constituency. I cannot comment much until the disciplinary committee meets,” he said.

Msonda, however, said it is also alleged that the parliamentarian has been working with Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leaders.

“I would like to remind our party members in leadership positions that the party has rules and regulations to be followed and that once elected to positions of leadership, we should not forget to work with the party grassroots who elected us,” he added.

Efforts to get a comment from the parliamentarian proved futile as he could not be reached on his mobile phone.
