Lilongwe-based musician Skeffa Chimoto has turned to Zambian artists Chimz Kelly of the Dorica fame and Nilibe Pulobulemu star, Mr Magigi to save his face this weekend.

The two artists whose hits have enjoyed airplay in the country will perform on July 1 through July 3 in place of fellow Zambian musician General Kanene, who would not make it this weekend.

Last week Skeffa came out to say that General Kanene would be performing in the country on July 1 through to July 3 but he said the controversial artist, who was convicted in 2014 and sentenced to 18 years in prison, but was pardoned by President Edgar Lungu has a tight schedule.

“I just want to apologise to people that General Kanene will not make it as I announced earlier.

He was supposed to perform this weekend in Mzuzu and Karonga but something just came up such that he would not be available this weekend,” said Skeffa nicknamed the Jamming Machine.

He said he did not want to let down fans hence engaging Chimz Kelly and Mr Magigi.

“I could not afford to cancel the shows. Actually I talked to General Kanene at length and he said he will be putting up a video apologising to the people in Northern region as well as announcing his availability of the shows at Zitherepano in Mangochi on July 8 and Ngoms Park in Liwonde on July 9,” said the singer.

Chimz Kelly in a video said he was prepared to excite people once again with his performance.

“I am always thankful for the support I receive in Malawi. This is why I do not hesitate to come whenever I am invited. I am actually working on a new song right now which I will premier in Malawi,” said Chimz Kelly.

Mr Magigi, who has had performances in the country courtesy of Wendy Harawa also said in a video that he is prepared for the performances.

According to an advert, Chimz Kelly and Mr Magigi will share the stage with Skeffa and his Real Sounds Band, Kanthu Kalinda, Thomas Zimitsani and Lenzoh Mshanga during shows which start on Friday at Boma Park in Mzuzu before dating Planet Entertainment Centre in Karonga on Saturday and then on Sunday at Mzuzu Tourist Lodge.

Skeffa said yesterday that Real Sounds Band would back the two Zambian musicians.

“The two artists will train with us ahead of the shows. The other group will arrive today (Wednesday) and then the other tomorrow (Thursday). We just want to call upon people to patronise the shows because all we want is to give them the much needed entertainment,” said Skeffa.
