South Africa Absa Premier Soccer League (PSL) side, Golden Arrows, have reportedly joined the race to sign Malawi National Football Team captain, Limbikani Mzava.
Several South African media outlets reported on Wednesday that Arrows were determined to beat Orlando Pirates to the signature of the versatile defender, who can play as a holding midfielder, centre-back and right-back.
Mzava, a former Malawi Under-17 and Escom United captain, is on the books of Mpumalanga Black Aces FC. However, his future is uncertain as John Comitis has bought Aces.
It was Comitis who told the South Africa media last week that Mzava was on his way to Pirates, who have since hired coach Muhsin Ertugral from Aces.
KickOff.com yesterday quoted an Arrows official as confirming that the club was talking to Mzava. The Flames defender was spotted in Blantyre yesterday.
“We are interested in Mzava. But the chairlady [Mato Madlala] is the right person to speak to,” the source told Kick-Off.
Pirates’ prospects of hiring Mzava appear slim as they have since signed defender Abbubaker Mobara from Ajax Cape Town FC alongside striker Riyaad Norodien. Mzava’s contract with Aces ends next year.
“We just heard that the club [Aces] was sold and nobody has taken the trouble to confirm to us. I cannot say whether I will stay. I will come back to you,” Mzava told Times Radio a fortnight ago.
