A total of 153,646 candidates are expected to sit for this year’s Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations which start today.
According to the Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb) Public Relations Officer, Simeon Maganga, the board is set to administer the examinations.
“All candidates Identification Cards (IDs) were sent to the schools and nominal rolls were verified in February and all candidate are aware.
“We do not expect any complaints because we have done everything to get the examinations administered properly. We are well prepared,” Maganga said.
He also said the board has already briefed all invigilators and security personnel about security issues in order to make sure that there are no malpractices like cheating and leakages.
However, Maganga conceded that the board has not paid in advance allowances for invigilators.
“As of now we do not have money yet. But as you know we paid those who invigilated last[JCE] examinations a week or two after the examinations, we are hoping that we will pay these ones earlier,” Maganga said.
This year’s number of candidates is less than that of last year when 157, 746 candidates sat for the examinations.
The examinations will run up to July 20.
