In a move that is aimed at preserving some of the well known hymn songs, Blantyre-based Pastor Clement Nkhoma has released an album titled Nyimbo Za Chitsitsimutso.
It seems pastors are leaving no stone unturned in preaching the word of God with others joining in singing as well.
Nkhoma said on Saturday that he has been singing in the past years but he never thought of working on an album.
“Now that I am a pastor I thought I should utilise my singing talent to preach the word of God but also at the same time I wanted to help preserve some of the hymn songs, hence producing them as they are. I have not tampered with the songs,” he said.
Recorded at SK Studio in Bangwe by Dingani Chapomba, the 10-track album features songs such as Thanthwe Long’ambikatu, Ndaima Nji, Yenda Iwe Yenda, Pokhala Mtendere, Bwenzi Lathu ndiye Yesu, Chitsime ndi Chokoma and Kulibe Bwenzi Longa Yesu.
“These are the songs which I love singing when I am preaching. They are inspirational songs, they are songs that bring you closer to God and refresh you so I had to work on them. They are not my compositions,” he said.
Nkhoma said he was happy that the songs have received an overwhelming response from people.
“Let me admit that I am not a good singer but I love singing. So I want to make sure that I sing all hymn songs,” he said.
Listening to the songs in the album, Pastor Nkhoma has potential but he needs to polish up his voice.
With other artists also playing some of the songs which they have done in their own styles, Pastor Nkhoma insisted that he did not want to colour the songs.
“I would have decorated the songs but I did not, I want them to sound the way people know them and that is how I sing when I am preaching,” he said.
Pastor Nkhoma has his church known as Powerhouse International which he founded in UK in 2006 before opening a branch in South Africa in 2013 and Blantyre Teachers College last year.
“The album is on the market. I am looking at launching it but for now people can get from various places and we have printed enough so let people get original copies and not pirated ones,” he said.
