MPs demand wireless internet at Parliament

by

Member of Parliament for Balaka North Constituency, Lucius Banda, on Tuesday asked government to provide wireless internet connection within the Parliament premises.

Banda raised the issue when MPs were asking Minister of Information, Patricia Kaliati questions.

He said such internet connection will allow members to argue more intensely on matters arising as they will easily do research.

“I think having internet will allow us to research properly and be able to compare other things across the borders. For example the issue of maize purchase in Zambia, we can instantly crosscheck with our neighbouring country while in session,” he said.

He added: “It’s not practical to have no internet here while you get access to it in lodges,” he added.

In her response, Kaliati concurred with Banda and asked Parliament administration to liaise with e-government officers at Capital Hill.

“It’s an important question and I will follow up to ensure that we have that access here,” she said.

Member of Parliament for Mangochi South West, Justin Majawa, and Chikwawa Nkombezi, Lloyd Malola, also sought the Minister’s responce on the absence of communication towers for mobile service operators around Parliament premises.
