Youth in the country have been urged to create employment opportunities for themselves as one way of dealing with the youth employment crisis prevalent in the country.
Blue League Vice National Chairperson, Dumisani Lindani, made the call in Blantyre on Saturday during the opening of a business management skills training for youth drawn from the Southern Region.
“We want to instill business skills in the youth, so that they may be able to create employment opportunities for themselves and others, abide by taxation laws as one way of contributing to national development. The youth can partner with the government in improving the country’s economic status,” said Lindani.
Some of the areas the youth were drilled in include business registration, licencing, taxation and tax compliance, banking and savings. The participants included students from University of Malawi’s constituent colleges of Chancellor College and The Polytechnic.
Blue League regional chairperson for the South, Alex Business, said youth from all districts in the southern region have been earmarked to benefit from the training.
Business said the acquisition of knowledge in business management would help dispel the notion that youth are tools of political violence.
“The youth have a crucial role to play in national development, and it is the intention of Blue League that the youth should be turned into entrepreneurs who can contribute effectively towards national development,” said Business.
