Blue Eagles coach Derklerk Msakakuona has praised his side’s character in the 2-0 victory over Civo United at Nankhaka Stadium on Saturday.

The victory propelled Eagles back to the TNM Super League summit with 21 points from nine games, two points clear of Silver Strikers, who were on-bye over the weekend.

In a post-match interview, Msakakuona said the victory had boosted his players’ morale after two consecutive defeats in the league.

“We were going through a bad patch and we needed a win. I believe the players have regained confidence,” Msakakuona said.

Before the game against Civo, the cops had lost two consecutive league matches to Silver (2-1) and 0-4 to Kamuzu Barracks.

The cops were also ousted from the Presidential Cup when they lost 4-5 through post-match penalties to Nyasa Big Bullets at Nankhaka.

On Saturday, Msakakuona made wholesale changes to the squad that lost two consecutive games.

Only Steve Chagoma, Enock Likoswe, Gregory Nachipo and Gilbert Chirwa were retained in the starting line-up.

Eagles scored through Chirwa and Victor Nyirenda in each half.

Civo coach Millias Pofera said some individual errors cost them the game.

At Chitowe Stadium, Mafco beat Moyale Barracks 1-0, courtesy of Richard Mbulu’s second-half strike. Mafco are third with 17 points from nine games.
