Airtel applauds Nam for managing sponsorship

Despite being non-committal on the future of their netball sponsorship, Airtel Money has applauded Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) for managing the three-year sponsorship professionally.

The company pumped K360 million into the netball sponsorship for three years, which ended after this year’s edition held over the weekend at Don Bosco in Lilongwe.

Airtel Money Country Director, Francis Matseketsa, during the finals said the company was satisfied with Nam’s administration of the sponsorship.

“As sponsors, we are pleased that Nam has used the sponsorship for its intended purpose of developing netball in the country,” Matseketsa said.

However, Matseketsa insisted that the company’s management, together with Nam, will review the future of the sponsorship.

Nam General Secretary, Carol Bapu, said netball had reached greater heights because of the Airtel sponsorship.

“For the past three years, we have seen talent which will be drafted into the national team. Without this sponsorship, we could not have exposed great talent,” Bapu said.

Diamond won the competition for the first time after beating traditional rivals, Tigresses 40-37 at in Lilongwe.

For being champions, Diamonds received K8 million, whereas Tigresses got K3 million.

Third-placed Blue Eagles Sisters pocketed K1.7 million with Civonets receiving K1.5 million for finishing fourth.

In the individual awards, Civonets dominated the awards wi th Salley Nyondo and Rose Nkanda scooping Player of- the Tournament and Best Centre crowns, respectively.

Alinafe Kamwala of Diamonds won the top scorer award, whereas Joanna Kachilika was voted the Best Defender of the tournament.
