George Nyirenda risks BB fine

Nyasa Big Bullets defender-cum-midfielder, George Nyirenda, could face disciplinary action for showing lack of respect to the club’s coaching panel when he was substituted in the first half during the team’s 3-0 victory over MDF Marine in a Presidential Cup round of 32 tie at Kamuzu Stadium on Wednesday.

The former Flames international astonished fans when he opted to walk straight to the dressing room, without even shaking hands with his replacement, Davie Ng’ambi.

The dread-locked utility player, who played for Zimbabwe’s Caps United in the past two seasons, even ignored attempts by John Lanjesi to calm him down, as his apparent frustration with the substitution was evident in his body language.

There were also reports that the player left the stadium even before half-time.

Nyirenda’s act provoked a fiery reaction from the Bullets fans that, in the course of the match, had shown frustration with his below-par performance.

Bullets’ Technical Director, Billy Tewesa, said the coaching panel was appalled by Nyirenda’s behaviour.

“I am not happy with the way George has behaved on the pitch. That is not good for the team. All players are equal and we should not treat players differently. We will look into this issue,” he said.

Nyirenda yesterday refused to comment on his behavior, which was contrary to his status as a former national team player and professional.

“I do not want to say anything on the matter,” Nyirenda said before cutting the line.

Tewesa, however, refused to comment on the rumours that former Bullets captain, Fischer Kondowe, was suspended for an altercation with a team-mate earlier this week.

“We only pick players that have done well in training. Fischer and Diverson Mlozi were not in the squad because they did not do well, not because of the rumours,” he said.
