After a two-month break, the 2016 Central Region Volleyball League (CRVL) season resumes Saturday with pomp and fanfare anticipated at Lilongwe Community Centre Court.
To spice up the start of the league, Lilongwe’s C2K Social Club has sponsored a pre-season tournament, which started last week and concludes Saturady.
The conclusion has in store a potentially-nail biting final involving Kamuzu Barracks and Blue Eagles.
The league’s Publicity Secretary, Peter Pemba, said arrangements have been concluded ahead of the new season.
“We urge volleyball fans to come in large numbers to watch exciting and entertaining action. All the teams look in shape because they have assembled good squads,” Pemba said.
He added that the committee is working tirelessly to find sponsorship before the end of the season.
“As a league, we have not lost hope of securing sponsorship. Several individuals and companies have shown willingness to help us. We are appealing to well-wishers to assist us to develop the sport,” he said.
C2K Social Club-a grouping of former volleyball players— sponsored the pre-season tournament to the tune of K600, 000.
C2K Director, Harold Chaika, said the pre-season tournament was just the start of good things to come from them.
“We have the passion for the sport and we cannot allow it to die a natural death. If funds permit, we will continue to arrange more exciting volleyball games to take the sport to another level,” Chaika.
