Central East African Railways (Cear) is this week holding a health week for all employees under the theme ‘Endemic Diseases in the Region’.
Cear Communications Officer Chisomo Mwamadi said in an interview yesterday that the company values the life of its employees above everything else hence organising such special talks every year.
“For us to meet our production targets and succeed, we need a healthy workforce. We also want them to return home the way they came to work hence the need to prioritise their health,” he said.
Mwamadi said throughout this week, top management will be leading daily talks with emphasis on endemic diseases such as malaria and HIV and Aids among others that are common in this part of Africa.
He said the 2016 Health Week will also cover areas of absenteeism which comes as a result of such diseases and how it affects the productivity of an individual, the company and the nation as a whole.
Each year, Cear holds special Health Week, Safety Week, Reflection Day and Environment Day among other initiatives to have a vibrant and healthy workforce.
