The 2016 domestic tennis season starts next weekend with a juniors’ tournament at National Tennis Centre in Blantyre, Lawn Tennis Association of Malawi (LTAM) has disclosed.
LTAM President, Titani Muwalo, said the tournament scheduled for the Country Club Limbe-based centre would involve Under-14 and 16 players from Blantyre, Lilongwe, Mzuzu and Zomba zones.
“We have already sourced sponsorship for this tournament, and we should be able to disclose them before the end of next week,” he said.
Muwalo said the tournament was ideal for the identification of players earmarked for special training at the centre.
He also disclosed that a first major seniors’ tournament would be held in May, and the identity of the sponsor would be revealed at the end of this month.
“We have to do things orderly. We will, as long as we are forging ahead, take a step at a time,” Muwalo said.
He added that his executive was also planning for an international tournament for seniors and juniors.
