Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has confirmed that captain Limbikani Mzava, Robert Ng’ambi, Harry Nyirenda, Frank Gabadinho Mhango, Joseph Kamwendo and Zicco Mkanda have joined Malawi national team in Sierra Leone.
The Flames, who squared up against Sierra Leone during a training match Tuesday, are in transit to Guinea for Friday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Group L qualifier.
However, the Flames trip received a scare after reports of Ebola resurfaced in Sierra Leone and Guinea.
Fam competitions and media manager, Gomezgani Zakazaka, said players were in good spirits despite the Ebola concerns.
“We are in touch with Caf [Confederation of African Football] on the matter. We wrote them asking about the situation in Guinea. They are the ones to decide whether the match goes ahead or will be moved to a neutral country,” Zakazaka explained.
At the time of departure, Flames team doctor, Levison Mwale, stated that the team was concerned about the Ebola situation in Guinea.
However, Caf and the World Health Organisation yesterday cleared Guinea to host the Flames, saying the disease had resurfaced in a remote forest area in Guinea.
