Blantyre Water Board (BWB) has planted 100, 000 trees around Mudi catchment area where their dam is located.

The exercise involved surrounding communities – including children, from Ndirande Township.

BWB boa rd member, Maureen Kachingwe, said farming activities that have been happening at Mudi for the past years led to pollution of the dam which requires them to invest a lot of money for purification.

She said last year, the board also planted 100, 000 trees but they did not survive hence the need to replant in order to cover the land where people around used to plant their crops.

Senior Chief Kapeni, who participated in the exercise, said he was happy that even school children had taken part in the exercise.
