A new uptown lodge has been opened in Malawi’s commercial capital, Blantyre.
The facility, Kris Star Lodge, which is situated near Malawi Revenue Authority’s Msonkho House, was officially opened by Blantyre City Mayor Noel Chalamanda.
Chalamanda said the structure will not only add beauty to the city but also provide the scarce comfortable and affordable accommodation to visitors.
He urged the business community in Blantyre to patronize the lodge which has a restaurant, conference facility and accommodation rooms.
The Mayor also urged Blantyre residents to become true entrepreneurs and to bring forward new ideas and innovative solutions.
“You can be assured that the council will provide the support and guidance that you need because we understand that the city can only develop if its dwellers have disposable income,” said Chalamanda.
The lodge is owned by prominent lawyer Masauko Msungama.
In his remarks, Msungama said the he decided to come up with the structure to help ease accommodation challenges in Blantyre.
The project cost over K500 million.
Msungama said the lodge has created jobs for 51 Malawians.
Director of Tourism Patricia Liabuba hailed Msungama for the investment.
Liabuba said the private sector have a great role to play in developing the country’s tourism sector.
