Malawi University of Science and Technology (Must) will this Saturday host an invitational volleyball tournament organised by FMB socials team.
The tournament’s organising secretary, James Mangani, said the day-long event will involve teams in the socials and competitive categories.
He stated that the choice of Must was made to motivate students of the university and surrounding communities to form their volleyball teams.
“The FMB socials team asked us, as organisers, to book Must for the tournament to popularise the game among students and communities there. You may wish to know that the university has fantastic volleyball courts that need to be put to good use,” Mangani observed.
He said the committee has invited teams from the corporate world to register.
Mangani disclosed that there would be cash prizes, trophies and other awards for outstanding teams and individuals.
Registration closed yesterday. Corporate teams participating in the socials category and teams playing in the Southern Region Volleyball League (SRVL) will participate in the competitive category.
FMB Socials team has a partnership with SRVL champions, Thunders volleyball club.
SRVL chairperson, Pacharo Ngwira, while acknowledging the importance of such tournaments, said his committee was not approached in the organisation of the event.
“We can only come in after being asked to. The organisers have not talked to us about it,” Ngwira said.
