President Peter Mutharika is Tuesday expected to sign performance contracts with four more ministries that are pursuing various reform areas in accordance with the ongoing Public Sector Reforms at a function at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
According to State House Press Office, the four ministries are Lands, Housing and Urban Development; Industry and Trade; Justice and Constitutional Affairs; and Sports and Culture.
“This now means that a total of 11 ministries and one department of E-Government are taking various reform areas and will be taken to account to ensure smooth implementation of the reforms agenda,” reads a statement from the Press Office.
After 79 failed attempts to reform the country’s public service, on February 11, 2015, President Peter Mutharika launched the 80th attempt.
During the launch, Mutharika promised that the signing of the Performance Contracts will be the new way of doing business to know which ministries are performing to the expectation and delight of Malawians.
On the day , Mutharika signed Organisational Performance Agreements (OPAs) with some ministries, including the ministries of Education, Health, Home Affairs and Internal Security, Finance, Information, Local Government, Transport and Natural Resources, Energy and Mining.
