Muhinje Farm, one of the fastest growing producers of herbal products on Saturday held a Women’s Health Symposium at the College of Medicine in Blantyre where traders of herbal products were sensitised on products locally available for various issues associated with women.
The seminar included display on herbal products available from Muhinje Farm as well as presentations from company representatives and health experts on their benefits to women. It attracted participants from Blantyre and other parts of the country.
One of participants at the symposium Mercy Makunje said there were many herbal products available for women’s health and other general ailments and that this could go a long way in improving people’s health and the economy if many people realized their benefits.
“I am a witness. I had some health problems which were addressed after using the products,” she said.
Speaking on the sidelines of the seminar, Muhinje Farm executive director Mabvuto Kapyepye said demand for the products are on the increase in Malawi and that there were also good prospects on the international market.
He said perception among Malawians on herbal products was changing.
“Previous l y, most people in the country associated herbs witchcraft. But the products are now being embraced by many people,” said Kapyepye.
“There is huge hope that if this further improves, we would be making the most out of the effort as individual businesses and as a country,” said Kapyepye.
He said the company is also currently exporting the products to Zambia, Zimbabwe and Tanzania and that Malawi stands to benefit from increase foreign exchange markets if the export market was fully explored.
