Hospitality unit, Sunbird Tourism Limited last Friday partnered with the Blantyre City Council (BCC) in a tree planting exercise along the banks of Blantyre’s Mudi River.

The initiative is part of the Sunbird Hotel’s corporate social responsibility.

Sunbird’s chief executive officer Rodger Gardner and Deputy Mayor for Blantyre City Willard Ndipo led in planting of the 6,000 seedlings along the Mudi river.

Speaking after the task, Gardner said the initiative was meant to help conserve nature as part of the company’s responsibility.

“We would like our guests, both local and international not only to enjoy Sunbird Mount Sochi here in Blantyre but the entire city as well,” said Gardner.

In his remarks, Ndipo expressed gratitude for the initiative while also calling other players from the private sector to emulate the example.

“If we join hands, we will surely reclaim the lost glory of the city,” said Ndipo.
