Airtel Malawi leads the way

Airtel Malawi continues to be a market leader in mobile telecommunications whilst its mobile money property, Airtel Money, equally stands tall above the rest in the banking sector.

This is according to the fresh statistics from the latest National Survey on Access to and Usage of ICT Services in Malawi courtesy of Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) in conjunction with the National Statistical Office (NSO).

The report of the survey, published Macra’s website, Airtel Malawi commands the domestic mobile telecommunications market with a 55.9 percent share while its runner up is pegged at 43.7percent.

In the mobile banking industry, Airtel Money leads the way with a 62.2 percent share market whilst its runner up is at 31.1percent.

Airtel Malawi Acting Managing Director Charles Kamoto commended his team for being champions of the market, further urging them to increase the brand’s muscle and continue to grow.

“This is a remarkable new year start for the Airtel family. These findings underline that our investments, products, innovations and services are registering an impact in our society. Our lead also emphasizes the trust that we have grown with the people and their belief in our brand. We shall keep on being a competitive, innovative and customer centred brand. We promise to deliver nothing but value to our customers,” said Kamoto adding that results of the survey would make Airtel do more homework as a market leader.

Last year, Airtel Malawi registered 3.5 million active subscribers on its network as well as one million registrations on its mobile money banking platform, Airtel Money.

Macra says it commissioned a national survey on ICT services and engaged the services of the National Statistical Office (NSO) to independently carry out the national survey on access to and usage of ICT services in Malawi.

“The survey, being the first ever, tried as much as possible to capture data and information on ICT indicators as defined by the guidelines and methodologies set by International Telecommunication Union, the World Summit on Information Society and the Universal Postal Union as well as those on recent global ICT developments,” Macra said in a statement.
