Flames blossoming attacking midfielder, Gerald Phiri Jnr, has been offered game time opportunity after joining Botswana’s outfit, Township Rollers on a five-month loan deal from Bidvest Wits.

The former Be Forward Wanderers midfielder joined Wits from Zimbabwe giants, Caps United at the start of the season but he has not featured for the club due to work permit hitches.

South African-based agent, Paul Mitchel, confirmed the deal in an interview Tuesday.

“He is joining Rollers in Botswana until May and he will return to Wits in July,” Mitchel explained.

“He’s just happy to get game time before the new PSL season. He was unfortunate not to get registered for this season.”

At Rollers, Phiri Jnr will play alongside compatriot, Lawrence ‘TicoTico’ Majawa, who is one of Malawi’s longest serving players in the Be Mobile League. Former Nyasa Big Bullets and Wanderers striker,

Jimmy Zakazaka is another Malawian player plying his trade in Botswana.

The move might be good news for Flames coach Enerst Mtawali, who is hoping to have his players fit a head of Africa Cup of Nations double header against Guinea next month. Mtawali was not available for his comment yesterday.

Phiri joined Wits on a two-year deal after a solid performance for the Flames during the Cosafa Cup last year.

Apart from Phiri, Wits have also another Flames star, Robin Ngalande but the latter is on a season-long loan deal at Platinum Stars.

The 22 year old star is one of the Flames reliable players under Mtawal’s rebuilding exercise. He s ored a single for Flames at the

Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Ethiopia last year
