Bloemfontein Celtic admit Gabadinho’s blow

Bloemfontein Celtic chief executive officer (CEO) Khumbulani Konco has, for the first time after terminating unilaterally Frank Gabadinho Mhango’s contract, admitted that the Malawian star’s exit is a big blow to the South Africa Absa Premier League side.

“I must concede that Mhango left a huge void but again players like Geofrey Massa and Vuyisile Wana, who have recuperated from injury, are equally competent to deliver. Our appeal to supporters is continue supporting the team,” Konco told www.bloemfonteinceltic.co.za

“As an institution (players and management) we need them, especially when things are not going right and we promise to make sure that we give relevant support to both players and technical staff. We will soon get positive results.”

Konco has since appealed for calm amid concerns over the future of the team which has also released other players, Tumelo Mogapi and Musa Bilankulu.

“Firstly, allow me to make it categorically clear that there is absolutely no crisis at the team as some quarters of the media have speculated. Our legions of supporters must remain composed and we assure them that the team is still stable,” the CEO added.

With five months remaining on his contract, Celtic fired Mhango last week after learning that he had signed a three-year pre-contract with BidVest Wits. Mhango might be out of action until July when he will join Wits officially.

Reports suggest that the Flames striker might secure a short-term deal with another PSL team while waiting for the transfer to Wits. Mhango accused Celtic of delaying tactics over his contract extension.
