Football Association of Malawi’s (Fam’s) annual general meeting which took place on Saturday at Chiwembe Technical Centre in Blantyre has announced the formation of new sub-committees for the smooth operation of the association in the next four years.
Fam Chief Executive Officer Suzgo Nyirenda confirmed the formation of the new subcommittees saying this aims to improve the game of football in the country as those who have been appointed will work towards football development.
The sub-committees include the finance and administration committee chaired by Fam’s committee member Daud Mtanthiko.
Players’ welfare committee will be headed by the Northern Region Football Association chairperson Alfred Gunda, marketing and commercial committee will be headed by
Fam’s second vice president Othaniel Hara, Jabber Alide will head the legal affairs and competitions sub-committees.
The technical and youth sub-committee will be under the leadership of James Mwenda. Referees’ sub-committee will be chaired by former Civo United general secretary Rashid Mtelera.
Women’s football and security, safety and crowd control sub-committees will be headed by Super League of Malawi president Innocent Bottoman and the disciplinary sub-committee will be headed by Arthur Nanthulu .
The Fam CEO said the appointment of members of all these sub-committees has been done on merit as the association consulted all the stakeholders. He said he believes that this year will be a turning point if the committees members appointed work hand in hand.
“We have decided to come up with these sub-committees as one way of ensuring that the association is not doing things on its own. For us to develop the game of football we rely on other individuals who have been in the football circle for quite a long time. I want to assure you that the new Fam executive committee has got well knowledgeable members than before. I was very impressed with the input from the likes of Rashid Mtelera. I am sure if we can have these guys at Fam we can change and improve. We have tried to incorporate others from Sulom, regional associations and others that are doing well at Super League clubs,” said Nyirenda.
Owen Chomanika, who failed to get a nomination in Fam polls last year has been appointed as a member in the finance and administration committee. Kondi Msungama, the former Big Bullets chairperson, is in the players’ welfare committee. Be Forward Wanderers general secretary Mike Butao is in the marketing committee.
