Dedza Stadium in face-lift

Dedza District Council has embarked on renovations at Dedza Stadium in preparations for next season.

The council has spent about K7.5 million in drilling a borehole inside the community stadium to aid an irrigation system for the pitch.

The council’s director of planning and development, Abubakar Nkhoma, disclosed recently that they want to take advantage of the off-season break to improve the condition of the pitch.

“We are also planning to procure a water reservoir to make sure that we have adequate water to keep the grass green all the time. We want to make the stadium as one of the best in country so that Super League teams should use the stadium next season,” Nkhoma explained.

Recently, the council also expressed fears that the stadium would be under-utilised next season following the relegation of Dedza Young Soccer from the TNM Super League.

The council also feared that income generating activities would shrink, hence affect maintenance activities.

In the just-ended season, a Super League game at Dedza Stadium was fetching about K200, 000.

Before Dedza got promoted to the Super League, the stadium was the home ground for Lilongwe-based outfit, Kamuzu Barracks.

However, the soldiers relocated to Civo Stadium due to unclear reasons.

It remains unclear if KB would return to the stadium next season.
