Chaos in Lilongwe: residents claim prophet turned into snake

by

All hell broke loose in Lilongwe’s Area 25 on Saturday after a rumour spread that a prophet ministering in the area had turned into a snake.

Prophet Foster Mbale was alleged to have turned into a snake when conducting prayers in the morning, but it later transpired to be false.

With no clear details about the incident coming out, the Area 25 residents, stormed the prophet’s prayer house. They stoned some vehicles parked outside the house, and burnt some plastic chairs.

It had to take intervention of police officers from Kanengo Police Station to control the situation. The officers dispersed the angry mob using teargas.

Some people claimed that the prophet had been taken to the police station. Scores of people gathered around Kanengo Police Station to press the police officers to let them see the prophet.

However, as all these things were happening, prophet Mbale was at Gulliver in Area 49, at one of his followers home. The church leaders organised an impromptu press conference to clear the rumour.

“This morning I was at home watching Emmanuel TV with my wife. I received a call from one of the members of the ministry who told me there were rumours that I had turned into a snake. I was shocked. You can even see, I’m not a snake. I don’t know how that rumour started but one thing that is very clear is that I have not turned into a snake,” Mbale said.

When asked what could be the cause of the rumour, Mbale said he had no idea. He however said Jesus faced similar hurdles.

Vice ministry coordinator Eluby Nkunika said she was surprised with what happened.

“Nothing of that sort happened. Everything has been going alright. On 31 December [2015] we had prayers. Many people attended. What has happened is very surprising,” Nkunika said.
