Malawi Defence Force boxers, Osgood Kayuni and Salimu Chazama, will Saturday forget about their Army ranks and trade punches at Lilongwe Community Centre.
To make it in the eight-round non-title fight, Chazama has increased his weight by three kilogrammes to move from lightweight to junior welterweight.
Both boxers hold impressive records. Kayuni, 27, boasts 30 fights, winning 22 times, drawing thrice and losing five, while Chazama, 22, has 21 fights under his belt, posting 19 wins, drawing once and losing twice.
Chazama said it was about time he earned respect as the boxer of the moment.
“I think I am the best boxer in the country. I deliberately challenged Osgood to prove that he is no longer lethal. Besides that, he has been working against me whenever I am fighting,” he said.
He also applauded New Dawn Boxing Promotions for making the fight happen.
But Kayuni said he was unfazed by the challenger, and vowed to silence Chazama.
“He has been talking a lot. I have faced deadly opponents before and I am not intimidated by what he is saying. His judgment is waiting for him in the ring,” he said.
