Bricks underlined their credentials when they clinched GY Imports and Exports Basketball Association of Malawi (Basmal) national championship held at African Bible College (ABC) in Lilongwe on Saturday.
The Blantyre-based basketball giants defeated Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal) champions, Cougars 62-58 in the final.
For winning the tournament, Bricks have earned themselves a trip to Tanzania for friendly games, courtesy of GY Imports and Exports. The champions also received medals and K1.5 million, whereas Cougars pocketed K750,000.
ABC Lions came third and received K250,000.
Basmal general secretary, Edgar Ng’ong’ola, hailed GY Imports and Exports for sponsoring the tournament.
“As Basmal, we would like to thank GY Imports and Exports for a wonderful job they are doing to develop basketball in the country. They have brought back the glory days of basketball,” he said.
Speaking during the prize presentation, GY Imports and Exports, managing director, Griffin Kalua, pledged to continue with the sponsorship next year.
“The basketball fans need to support our company by buying different merchandise so that we come back next year in a bigger way,” Kalua said.
Eight teams participated in the GY Imports and Exports-sponsored tournament.
The national championship was sponsored by GY Imports and Exports-dealers in furniture, ICT equipment, stationary, tiles, toilet sets and building materials.
