Malawi Pool Association (Mapa) goes to polls today in Lilongwe, with outgoing executive committee member, Hastings Mpesi, vying for the vice presidency.
Mpesi on Wednesday said he would restructure what he called the damaged image of the association.
He faces competition from Northern Region current chairperson Mathews Munthali, who is also vying for the seat.
“Malawians have lost trust in current Mapa administration because some of the people lacked seriousness. In the early 2000, people used to love pool, but lately, the fans lost interest so we want to revamp the game in the country,” said Mpesi.
On his part, Munthali said he was compelled to stand as one way of contributing to the development of pool.
“I have experience in pool administration. I have all the qualities to contribute to the development of the game in Malawi,” he said.
On the Mapa presidency, Central Region Pool League (CRPL) chairperson, Franco Banda, is challenging incumbent Chikondi Mbewe.
Current Mapa general secretary, Saulos Thindwa, is also seeking re-election while Ben Kaukondo has indicated he would contest for the position of vice-general secretary.
