Frank Mvalo, Lee Cho win Nico Life golf

Golf Union of Malawi (GUoM) vice chairperson, Frank Mvalo, outclassed a pool of 84 golfers to win Nico Life Insurance Company invitational golf tournament at Lilongwe Golf Club on Saturday.

Mvalo posted a total of 37 points, beating second-placed Frank Chinkhandwe, who counted out Peter Mtema on 36 points. Mtema came third.

For being a champion, Mvalo received a trophy plus a mountain bike. Partridge Shycal won the longest drive while William Chipeni won the nearest to pin.

In his victory speech, Mvula hailed Nico Life for hosting the tournament.

“I played good golf and I was relaxed. I would like to appreciate Nico Life for organising a wonderful tournament in Lilongwe,” said Mvula.

In the ladies category, Marie Lee Cho emerged the champion with 34 points while Sheila Chinkhandwe counted out Regina Mwanza to finish second with 33 points.

Speaking during the prize presentation, Nico Life Chief Operating Officer, Gerald Chima, said the tournament was organised to interact with its clients.

“The golf tournament was a good opportunity for us to interact with our clients in Lilongwe. We are happy that the tournament was a success and the golfers gave us an overwhelming response,” said Chima.

During the event, Nico Life also donated K500, 000 to Landirani Trust and Comfort Orphanage each receiving K250, 000.

The golfers also contributed an additional K50, 000 to Comfor t Orphanage. Nico Life Insurance Company also donated K200, 000 for the maintenance of the golf course.
