Despite having scored just two goals in the 2015 season, last season’s golden boot award winner, Deus Nkutu, is confident of defending the accolade.
The Moyale Barracks marksman missed the opening games for Moyale due to an injury he suffered in the soldiers’ last game of the 2014 season.
The head injury threatened the forward’s football career and he only joined the battle in the third week of the season.
The Mzuzu based soldiers also started the 2015 season on wrong foot and ended up being outside top 10 on the log table.
However, they have resurrected and last weekend collected four points from their Southern Region trip after beating Fisd Wizards 1-0 and drawing one-all against Mighty Wanderers.
Nkuku said Moyale would come strong in the second round and he promised to keep the pressure on Innocent Bokosi and Green Harawa, who share the top scorers top position with eight goals apiece.
“I have so far scored two goals but I think those that are at the top have not done much,” he said. “They have eight goals each and I can overtake them come second round.”
Moyale, who finished as runners-up to Big Bullets in 2014 season, are on position eight with 16 points from 13 games. They wrap up against Civo United on Sunday.
“I think the problem we had was on coordination since there are a number of new players in the squad,” Nkutu said.
“But we have now worked on that and we should be a force to reckon with in the second round.”
