Silver Strikers plot to dislodge Azam Tigers

TNM Super League action resumes this afternoon with one match on the menu involving Silver Strikers and rookies TN Stars at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

Silver lie on position six with 10 points and with a win, they can displace third-placed Azam Tigers who have 12 points.

The Central Bankers’ Team Manager, Francis Songo, said his charges are geared for the match as they want to move to position three on the table.

Songo said, after drawing 1-1 against their arch-rivals Civil Sporting Club to progress to the semi-final of the Airtel Top 8 Cup on a 2-1 goal aggregate, his charges have now switched their minds to this afternoon’s assignment.

He said a tactical approach to the match would enable them to dislodge Tigers and pile pressure on second-placed Civil.

“We had only two days to switch our minds from a cup game to a league game. But, all in all, we are well prepared and all the boys are ready for the match.

“We played them during the pre-season in Kasungu and we managed to beat them but we are not comfortable because if we are not careful, we can be surprised.

“But we are looking at the importance of this game because if we win, it means we will overtake Tigers on third position and that is what we are aiming at,” Songo said.

TN Stars have welcomed back their Head Coach, Meke Mwase, who was with the Malawi under 20 national football team.

Mwase, who missed the Kasungu-based club’s recent 1-0 league victory over Tigers, said his charges will go flat out in the game as they aim at pulling a surprise in the capital city.

Mwase believes that it will be unacceptable to let in silly goals much as they are aware that facing Silver is a big task.

“Everything is quite alright in our camp as we are coming from a win. We know it will not be easy to beat Silver but that does not mean that we cannot do it. We are going to Silver Stadium to do what we can manage to do,” Mwase said.

Stars are on position 12 on the table with seven points.

Meanwhile, Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has revised week eight fixtures by rescheduling Saturday’s match between Red Lions and Silver Strikers at Mangochi Stadium.

In a statement released on Monday evening by Sulom General Secretary, Williams Banda, the top flight league’s governing body stated that the stadium has been booked for prayers by the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

The change has also affected Tigers and Dwangwa United whose match will take place on Saturday and not Sunday.

Nyasa Big Bullets are still on top of the log table with 17 points from seven matches.
