Two Solomonic Peacocks theatre class students are in Germany for a week as part of the ‘Aware and Fair Project’.

The two actors, Lydia Banda and Jack Msumba, left the country last Friday.

Solomonic Peacocks Director, McArthur Matukuta, said they were happy that their theatre class students were part of the project, which has drawn participants from 10 countries.

“The two actors will share experiences with colleagues from other countries,” Matukuta said.

Banda and Msumba were selected to be part of the 2017/2018 Peer Leader International, which targets 20 young people who work as team leaders in non-governmental organisations in Germany.

Matukuta said the project started in 2013 in the country and that it is run by Solomonic Peacocks. Among others, the theatre group has introduced a theatre class where they mentor the youth in theatre, leadership and entrepreneurship.

“As Solomonic, we want to drive the youth into leaders through arts. This is why we introduced theatre classes. On top of that, we are also involved in different programmes, one of which involves working with inmates at Chichiri Prison,” Matukuta said.

In 2013 and 2015, Solomonic Peacocks travelled with Chichiri Secondary School students to Hannover in Germany and Poznan in Poland, respectively, under the same project.

Matukuta said Banda and Msumba would, among other things, be trained in leadership skills and organisation management, proposal and project management.

Banda and Msumba are expected back home on April 15.

“It’s a very good experience and so far so good. We staged Romeo and Juliet in which we fused traditional dances and we connected this to Sustainable Development Goals,” Msumba said Thursday.
