Blaze promotes girls’ education

Blaze, who is famed for his ‘Mwini Zinthu’ hit song, on Friday called on Malawians to empower girls through education.

The Musician performed alongside Kwin Bee at a function Youth Net and Counselling (Yoneco) organised to promote equality among girls and boys.

Blaze urged girls to be ambitious.

“Things have changed. There is no way girls can remain in the kitchen while boys go to school. Everyone deserves a chance to grow into productive citizens,” said the artist.

In her remarks, Minister of Gender, Jean Kalilani, said the government wants artists to act as role models for young people.

“We should realise that everything in this life depends on education. These people could not be able to compose songs if they did not go to school. It is, therefore, important that young people should prioritise education,” Kalilani said.

Yoneco board member, Joseph Mshanga, said artists are engaged to influence positive behaviour among the youth, who cannot achieve anything if they are not focused.
