Silver Strikers host Mozambican team

Capital City giants Silver Strikers have gone a step farther in their preparations for the 2017 season by engaging a Mozambican team, Planet FC, in their pre-season friendlies.

The Beira-based side was expected in the country yesterday ahead of the match at Area 30’s Nankhaka Ground this afternoon.

Silver General Secretary, Thabo Nyirenda, said his players are hoping to redeem themselves after back-to-back losses in the past two weeks.

The bankers were beaten 2-1 by Be Forward Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre last week as both teams stepped up their preparations for the new season.

Two weeks ago, the Reserve Bank-sponsored side failed to register a win after Kamuzu Barracks defeated them 1-0 before Nyasa Big Bullets condemned them to a 5-4 post-match penalty loss.

“The Mozambicans asked to play us and we accepted. It will help to face a team that plays a different brand of football. We will be hoping to learn something while also playing to win,” Nyirenda said.

Silver endured a frustrating 2016 season after failing to win silverware despite enjoying one of the best sponsorship packages in the country.
