Unicaf University Malawi (UUMA) donated assorted items to mothers at Bwaila District Hospital in Lilongwe.
The University’s Rector, Kuthemba Mwale, said the young mothers and their infants are future leaders and hence need proper care to grow well.
“We share in their experiences and as conscientious citizens, we try to support them in whatever they are going through,” Mwale said.
The donated items included sugar, baby nappies and soap.
One of the beneficiaries, Elita Banda, said the items would go a long way in helping her.
Ward In Charge, Elistiner Kayange, said the donation was timely as the hospital is facing a lot of challenges, among them, limited resources.
“While we can give our patients medical assistance, there are other important things which we cannot give them and you have fulfilled that. We appeal to other well-wishers to emulate the gesture,” Kayange said.
