Big Bullets, Chitipa United differ on striker

Nyasa Big Bullets have signed one striker and are on the brink of signing two more, the club’s Chairperson, Noel Lipipa, has confirmed.

However, Bullets have differed with Chitipa United over one of the targeted players—Malawi Under-20 National Football Team forward Abel Mwakilama.

Lipipa Wednesday said the People’s Team had signed Misheck Botomani from Southern Region Premier Division outfit Mitra Icons.

Additionally, Mwakilama and Jack Chiona of Chitipa United and Dwangwa United respectively, are also set to join the Super League giants later in the week.

“The other two will be in by Thursday [today]. All the discussions with the players have been finalised and they [two] just have to make themselves available at our offices in Blantyre,” he explained, adding that Botomani has started training with Bullets.

He, however, could not disclose the transfer fees for the three starlets.

However, in the latest twist, Chitipa General Secretary, Marshall Mwenechanya, feigned ignorance on Bullets’ interest in the 20-year-old striker.

“I can confirm that as a club, we have not yet been officially communicated by Bullets. We will be treating it as hearsay,” he said.

Mwenechanya said Mwakilama, who trained with the 2016 Simama Premier Division winners on Tuesday, was contracted to Chitipa until December 2017.

In response, Lipipa accused Mwenechanya of being economical with the truth.

“This is what we call football politics. We have been communicating with Chitipa United on the matter and their General Secretary is well aware that we need the player,” Lipipa added.
