Veteran midfielder Joseph Kamwendo has apologised to fans and resumed training with Be Forward Wanderers, signalling that he wants to stay put at the Lali Lubani Road.
The midfielder, who resigned recently saying he wanted to be close to his ill mother at his Mchinji District home, started training on Monday ahead of the new season kicking off next month.
In a statement released on the club’s official Facebook page, Kamwendo confirmed that he held fruitful discussions with Wanderers General Secretary, Mike Butao and Vice Chairperson, Gift Mkandawire.
“I am happy to say that my issue has been resolved. I am confident that the club will support me on the issue of my mother’s illness, so I am no longer desperate,” part of the statement reads.
“There have been a lot of stories circulating about my reasons for wanting to join Masters Security FC with many alleging that I had pocketed money. I hope this decision to stay [put] at Wanderers will put those rumours to rest.”
The midfielder has since apologised to Wanderers family
saying all was water under the bridge.
“Out of desperation due to the condition of my mother, I might have done some things that offended Wanderers’ family. If that was the case, I just want to apologise to all supporters, officials and sponsors. I am a true Wanderers’ son and everything I did or said was because I was worried and desperate. I want to concentrate on my football and help the club achieve our targets for this year,” Kamwendo added.
Recently, Butao said Wanderers were only going to release the former Orlando Pirates player if an interested team made him an offer and if transfer procedures were followed.
Kamwendo is still contracted to Wanderers and he was only going to be released if the Nomads had breached his contract seriously and if he had not featured in 10 percent of Wanderers’ games last season.
Mkandawire yesterday reserved his comment on Kamwendo’s issue, saying he wanted to consult.
Kamwendo rejoined Wanderers mid last season on a two and half-year deal having terminated his contract with Mozambican side, Liga Desportivo de Maputo, formerly Liga Muculmana.
In his career, Kamwendo has also played for Caps United (Zimbabwe), FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark, Pirates, Vasco Da Gama (South Africa), Don Bosco and TP Mazembe (DRC).
Ahead of the season, Wanderers have retained most players but might lose midfielder Isaac Kaliyati if he clinches a deal with South African side, Cape Town City.
Top defenders Stanley Sanudi, Francis Mlimbika, attackers Jabulani Linje and Mike Kaziputa have reportedly signed contract extensions with the club.
Nigerian forward Amos Bello is also reportedly set to stay put.
Bello was also linked with Masters Security FC but the deal did not materialise.
