Civo United have bowed down to pressure and partly settled players’ game bonuses and upkeep allowances for last season.
The players took the club’s management to task this week by staging a vigil at the club house in Lilongwe on Monday night.
During the vigil, some players indicated that they were evicted from their houses over non-payment of rentals for three months.
Civo Vice-General Secretary, Ronald Chiwaula, yesterday confirmed that they agreed to pay the players in instalments.
“We negotiated with the players and they listened to us. We gave them part-payment because the club is still waiting for funding from the government,” he said.
According to Chiwaula, each player received a part- payment of a minimum of K100, 000.
Reports suggest Civo owe each player an estimated K350, 000 in game bonuses and upkeep allowances.
The Office of the President and Cabinet sponsors the team which won the league title in 1987.
Chiwaula said the club might apply for special funding from the sponsor to settle the debt.
Civo, who were relegated to the Central Region Football Association (CRFA) Chipiku Premier Division, are hunting for a coach after parting ways with Charles Manda on January 31 2017.
The team started pre-season training last week under the tutelage of Civo Youth Coach, James Chimphepo.
Civo have released players such as Patience Kalumo, Wyson Nkhana, Dan Msimuko, Innocent Phiri and Duncan Mkandawire.
