The date for Athletics Association of Malawi (AAM) annual general meeting (AGM) has finally been set.
The AGM, whose main agenda include elections, will take place on Saturday at Livingstonia Beach Hotel in Salima District.
The posts to be contest for are of Vice President, General Secretary (GS) and Vice General Secretary (VGS), Treasurer and Vice Treasurer.
Haxon Chapasa and Emmanuel Mlonya will contest for the vice presidency, Frank Chitembeya and Blackson Malamula are eyeing the GS seat. Thandi Mbeya and outgoing Vice President, Saint Banda, will contest for the post of VGS.
In other positions, Ireen Luka and Christopher Kabwazi are vying for the post of Treasurer and the post of Vice Treasurer has attracted Senk Kalowekamo and John Mwathiwa.
Incumbent President, Godfrey Phiri, will go unopposed.
High Court of Malawi Judge Sylvester Kalembera and the Judiciary Spokesperson Mlenga Mvula will preside over the elections. Ronald Mpaso, a sports journalist from Times Group, will represent the media.
Chitembeya said he was optimistic that the elections will be a success.
“The polls will give people a chance to exercise democracy in how the affairs of the associations should be run,” Chitembeya said.
The polls were initially scheduled for February 19. Earlier, Malawi National Council of Sports stopped AAM from proceeding with the elections last year in Samila after noting that the electoral process was marred by irregularities.
