Kukoma Diamonds have gone on top of the Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League after beating Prison Sisters 76-36 at Blantyre Youth Centre on Tuesday.

In the first quarter, Kukoma led 20-8 before extending the cushion to 38-16 at half-time then 57-25 in the third quarter.

Following the win, Kukoma top the table with 36 points from 12 games whereas defending champions, Tigresses, lie second with 30 points from 11 games.

Despite the defeat, Prison Coach, Pemphero Ntalika, was, nonetheless, pleased with his charges for putting up a gallant fight.

“To be honest, our coordination was not at its best and we were too casual. Some of our players hardly trained with us and this made our life difficult,” he said.

Kukoma Team Manager, Sellar Mwafulirwa-Ligowe, said they were determined to win the championship.

“Prison are a good side. We had a little problem in defence. Our defenders were failing to communicate as such we conceded baskets unnecessarily,” he said.

In another match, Alliance Capital Stars put aside their disturbing news that their sponsor, Alliance Capital Limited, will withdraw sponsorship next month, to beat Gerald Tasaukadala Sisters 68-25.

As we went to press, Kukoma were taking on Chilomoni Sisters whereas third-placed Thunder Queens met Shizaella.
