Wizards FC officials over the weekend differed on the team’s target in the TNM Super League this season.
After losing 0-1 to Mzuni, Wizards coach, Macdonald Yobe, said their goal was to remain in the league. Wizards have lost four consecutive games.
“We have young players who still have a long way to go in football and therefore, we just need to fight to remain in the league so that they can gain experience. We do not want to be relegated like last year,” Yobe said.
However, on Sunday after losing 0-2 to Moyale, Wizards Team Manager, Fundi Akidu, said the team was eyeing a top-eight finish.
“In the second round, we need to come back with more energy and experience. I must admit that our team lacks experience as we only have two senior players. Grant Lungu is now nursing an injury while the other one [Cuthbert Sinetre] lacks fitness,” Akidu said.
On Saturday, Wizards captain, Tilekeleni Joseph, was given marching orders after his persistent foul language to the referee.
On Sunday, Moyale scored through Khuda Muyaba and Gastin Simkonda in a space of two minutes, leaving Wizards stuck on 13th position on the log table with 12 points from 14 games.
Last season, the team was relegated alongside Airborne Rangers and Dedza Young Soccer, but was brought back into the league through play-offs to identify a 16th team.
