Blantyre District Council elects new Chairperson

Blantyre District Council’s newly-elected Chairperson, Councillor Tawanda Tambula, has said he is determined to help in the development of the district.

According to Tambula, being elected to the position means he has support from fellow councillors and, because of this, he will work hard to bring development in the district as well as not to disappoint those who elected him.

“It is a great honour to be given this position and I promise the people of Blantyre District that I will not disappoint them; I will follow up on some of development projects that have not taken shape so that we know the progress,” explained Tambula.

Tambula, however, said he would also involve the youth in development works and other activities so that they can restrain from indulging in immoral behaviour.

“We are also going to introduce sub-committees so that they [committees] can help in sourcing funds from companies, organisations and other well wishers rather than relying on the support from government alone,” said Tambula.

The elections were conducted on Wednesday and five councillors contested for the seat.
