Kingfisher scheme to cover goods in transit

As one way of ensuring safety of cargo travelling through Mozambique, Kingfisher Insurance Brokers and Consultants Limited has introduced a new insurance scheme offering protection to transporters using routes passing through Mozambique.

The scheme targets all local transporters, according to the firm’s Business Development Officer, Shadreck Khunga.

Khunga said the product was designed as a response to concerns over the safety of fuel products coming into the country through Mozambique following reports of political instability in that country.

“We provide teller made solutions and this terrorist scheme is a clear testimony of that fact. We are also keen to listen to needs among other groups of people so that we can develop products that are relevant to them,” Khunga said.

Being land-locked, Malawi relies heavily on its neighbours including Mozambique for its imports and exports. But, the recent spate of violence and tension in Mozambique raised concerns of Malawi suffering a fuel shortage is measures are not takes to address the concerns.

Five trucks and tankers belonging to Malawian businesses, for instance, were recently attacked and set ablaze by an unknown militia group.

Kingfisher Insurance Brokers has operated in the insurance industry for the past 20 years.
