Malawi Under-17 National Football Team should brace up for tough battles at the Cosafa Youth Championship which gets underway Friday in Mauritius.
Returning to the competition after four years, Malawi get their show in motion when lining up against Madagascar tomorrow. The tournament runs up to July 31.
Cosafa website indicates that Madagascar have named a strong squad for the Group B clash against the Junior Flames at the Stade St Francois Xavier in Port Loius.
The islanders’ football is improving with their senior team finishing third at the 2015 Cosafa Castle Cup in South Africa and Madagascar Beach soccer National Team won the regional football showpiece the same year at home.
Madagascar squad comprises players such as Tabibo Balvano, Jean Clais Lido, Mamisoa Andriamalala and Andriniaina Amourson.
After facing Madagascar, Malawi take on Zambia on Sunday at the same venue then guests, Kenya, on Tuesday.
Malawi coach Derklerk Msakakuona should also be wary of Zambia, who have also named a strong squad, including 15-year-old defender Dan Kunda and 14-year-old midfielder Sam Mbewe.
Zambia coach Osward Mutapa will use the Cosafa Cup tournament to prepare for the African Under-17 Championship qualifiers.
Top two teams in each pool advance to the semifinals. Group A has hosts Mauritius, South Africa, Namibia and Seychelles.
