GetBucks increases funding to school feeding programme

Getbucks, a microfinance institution, says it will channel more resources towards a school-feeding programme it is implementing at Nkanga Local Education Authority in Lilongwe.

The programme was launched in March this year with the aim of improving pupils’ enrolment.

Speaking when he visited the school over the weekend, GetBucks Operations Manager, Zeyn Yusuf Ali, said the company decided to start the programme as one way of giving back to the community.

He said since the programme was launched at the school, it has registered many success stories. “The programme is really assisting the pupils. Actually, pupils are now excited with the programme and they look healthier,” he said.

Ali further explained that the company is also empowering the community as a long-term strategy to sustain the project.

In his remarks, Head Teacher at the school, Robenson Teweta, hailed GetBucks for implementing the programme.

Though the programme, GetBucks is also empowering the local community financiall by purchasing maize from some selected farmers to feed the pupils.

The school feeding programme is being conducted every Thursday. Through the programme, pupils are given nsima, soya pieces, cabbages, sweet potatoes, sugar cane, fish and meat.

Nkanga School has an enrolment of about 850 pupils.
