The 2016 Presidential Cup final involving eventual champions, Nyasa Big Bullets and Moyale Barracks grossed K19,792,900 million in gate revenue at Civo Stadium on Saturday.

Bullets and Moyale earned K4, 086,053 each from the net. Football Association of Malawi (Fam) received K3,266, 843, whereas Masters Security, as an outsourced firm, pocketed K1, 500,000.

Some K4, 086,053 went to ground levy, whereas the Police got K750, 000.

Fam printed 20,000 open stands’ tickets with each selling at K1,000, whereas 1,000 and 75 tickets were printed for covered and VIP stands, respectively.

However, Bullets vice-chairperson, Austin Kasito, said the revenue was not a true reflection of the huge turnout.

“We suspect that some people entered the stadium for free because there was a security problem,” he said.

Fam General Secretary, Sugzo Nyirenda, said there was need for a mindset change to address gate management challenges.

“It’s a big challenge because the fans always find ways to access the stadiums through unauthorised entry. Another challenge is that most of our stadiums were built without proper security fences,” Nyirenda said.

Meanwhile, Bullets risk a fine for pitch-invasion after their fans descended onto the pitch. The cup’s rules and regulations state that a club that fails to control its supporters shall be fined K500, 000 with K300,000 being a penalty for pitch-invasion.

Bullets won the cup for the second time in its history after beating Moyale 4-3 on post-match penalties. The game had ended one-all in regulation time.
